United States Attorney Glenn T. Suddaby

Glenn T. Suddaby
United States Attorney
Northern District of New York

Mr. Suddaby has been a working prosecutor for most of his legal career. From 1992 through 2002, he supervised the homicide bureau of the Onondaga County District Attorney's Office, representing nearly 500,000 people in the largest county among the 32 that comprise the Northern District of New York. During that time, Mr. Suddaby personally prosecuted more than 80 homicide cases. Overall, he has conducted well over 100 felony trials.

Mr. Suddaby is one of very few prosecutors in the nation to successfully prosecute a murder case even though the body of the victim was never found; in 1995 he convicted Phillip Whaley of murdering two Syracuse women whose bodies have not been recovered to this day.

From 1997 to 2002, he was responsible for the daily administration of the Onondaga County District Attorney's Office. As the First Chief Assistant District Attorney, he supervised 45 ADA's, 14 investigators, and 40 support staff. In that role, he assigned cases, monitored their progress, advised ADA's, supervised support staff, and continued to try three to four homicide cases per year.

Early in his career, while prosecuting violent felonies and sex crimes, Glenn Suddaby was appointed to serve as the ADA in charge of the Victim Witness Assistance Center. He has demonstrated his commitment to the welfare of crime victims throughout his career. On April 22, 2001, for his efforts on behalf of crime victims, Mr. Suddaby received the US. Department of Justice Award for Public Service for "the highest standards of service to crime victims and to the pursuit of 'Victim Justice' in the Northern District of New York."

Glenn Suddaby was raised in a family of ten children in New York's North Country — Glens Falls and Plattsburgh. He earned a B.A. in Communications from SUNY Plattsburgh in 1980, where he played varsity baseball, football, and basketball. A senior, began his public service career as an intern to the New York State Assembly. After graduation, Mr. Suddaby served for four years as a legislative assistant in the New York State Legislature. He graduated from Syracuse University College of Law in 1985 and immediately joined the Onondaga County District Attorney's Office, where he served as a law clerk throughout law school. In 1989, he joined the Syracuse law firm Menter, Rudin & Trivelpiece, where he engaged in complex litigation in both Federal and State courts, including commercial litigation, antitrust, and criminal matters. Glenn Suddaby returned to the District Attorney's Office in 1992 as Chief Assistant in charge of the Homicide Bureau.

Mr. Suddaby resides in Syracuse with his wife Jane and his two sons. He coaches youth baseball and basketball, and remains active in several youth programs.
