United States Attorney Terrance P. Flynn
Terrance P. Flynn was born and raised in Mt. Morris, New York. He was confirmed by the United States Senate on March 13, 2006, for a term of four years, and subsequently appointed by President George W. Bush on March 17, 2006.
Upon graduating from Mt. Morris Central High School, United States Attorney Flynn attended the University of Notre Dame, where he received a degree in Accounting in 1985. From there, he attended the University of Buffalo Law School, where he obtained a Juris Doctor in May 1988. After being admitted to practice law in the State of New York, he started practicing law with a major upstate New York law firm in Buffalo, New York. Prior to his confirmation as the United States Attorney, Mr. Flynn was a trial partner who litigated and tried cases throughout the State of New York, including the New York City metropolitan area and upstate New York. Mr. Flynn personally represented numerous individuals and entities, including several Fortune 500 corporations.
In addition to serving as a trial partner in his law firm, he also served as the President of the University of Buffalo National Law School Alumni Association, as well as held various other officer positions within that national organization. Mr. Flynn also previously served as an active member of the New York State Bar Association’s Committee for Mass Disaster Response for the State of New York.
Currently, United States Attorney Flynn serves as a select member of Attorney General Michael Mukasey’s working group and committee on child exploitation and border and immigration law enforcement. As a member of those select committees, Mr. Flynn and his fellow U.S. Attorneys advocate for the Department of Justice on all issues involving any crimes against children, as well as any issues specific to protection of our international borders and the enforcement of our immigration laws. Mr. Flynn continues to be a strong advocate in speaking to community groups and law enforcement organizations regarding enforcement of such laws and the need for public awareness to insure full protection of our nation’s children and security of our national borders.
As United States Attorney for the 17 county region of the Western District of New York, which reaches as far west as Erie and Chautauqua Counties, and as far east as Seneca, Yates, and Chemung Counties, he is directly responsible for the management of two offices, which include 117 personnel, including 54 attorneys. Specifically, he is responsible for the overall prosecution of approximately 4,200 cases, encompassing such areas as counter-terrorism, narcotics, and organized crime, along with numerous civil and other criminal matters.
