Gregory A. White, United States Attorney for the Northern District of Ohio, announced today that a criminal information was filed against Theophilous H. Woods, charging him with four counts of failing to make income tax returns. According to court records, Woods resides in Bath, Ohio.

The information alleges that Woods, while self-employed as a financial planner, doing business as Woods Associates, willfully failed to file personal income tax returns with the Internal Revenue Service for the years 2000 through 2003. According to the information, Woods was required to file the returns by virtue of the fact that he had gross income totaling $1,879,039 for the four years, in following yearly amounts:

Calendar Year Gross Income
2000 $404,155
2001 $275,183
2002 $592,543
2003 $607,158

If convicted, the defendant’s sentence will be determined by the Court after review of factors unique to this case, including the defendant’s prior criminal record, if any, the defendant’s role in the offense and the characteristics of the violation. In all cases the sentence will not exceed the statutory maximum and in most cases it will be less than the maximum.

The government’s case is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney John M. Siegel, following an investigation by the Internal Revenue Service, Criminal Investigation Division, Akron, Ohio.

An information is only a charge and is not evidence of guilt. A defendant is entitled to a fair trial in which it will be the government’s burden to prove guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.
