WARM SPRINGS RESIDENT SENTENCED IN FEDERAL COURT ON CHARGES OF COMMITING VIOLENT CRIMES

Warm Springs Resident Sentenced for two counts of Assault with a Dangerous Weapon With Intent to do Bodily Harm

 

Portland, Ore. – Antonio Pedraza-Padilla, Jr.,  23, resident of the Warm Springs Indian Reservation, Warm Springs, Oregon, was sentenced by U.S. District Court Judge Michael W. Mosman, on April 25, 2007, to two concurrent 44-month terms of imprisonment in federal court for the assaults of his girlfriend and her 17 year-old sister on February 26, 2006.  The defendant pled guilty to assaulting his girlfriend in front of their children, ages 2 and 3,with a splitting maul causing a skull fracture, and then swinging the weapon at the 17-year old in an attempt to harm her when she did not follow his orders during the violent episode in the family home.  Defendant mimed cutting off the victim’s head, threatening to “finish off” the victim.  The defendant prevented anyone in the home from getting medical assistance for approximately 1 and ½ hours.  The victim was flown by Life-Flight to St. Charles Medical Center in Bend, Oregon, and treated for her injuries. Defendant was arrested some time later by authorities.

The case was jointly investigated by the Warm Springs Police Department and the Bend Resident Agency of the FBI.  The prosecution of the case was handled by Assistant United States Attorney Billy J. Williams.
