WILLIAMSPORT MAN FEDERALLY SENTENCED FOR INVOLVEMENT IN FAMILY DRUG TRAFFICKING BUSINESS Thomas A. Marino, United States Attorney for the Middle District of Pennsylvania announced today that Donte Brooks, formerly of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, was sentenced by United States District Judge Malcolm Muir to a term of imprisonment for conspiracy to distribute crack cocaine. Judge Muir sentenced Brooks to a 51 month term of imprisonment and further ordered that Brooks serve a 3 year term of supervised release. According to U.S. Attorney Marino, in the Spring of 2005, Brooks had entered into the family-operated crack cocaine trafficking business with his cousin Darien Robinson. Together Brooks and Robinson rented an apartment on Hepburn Street which was used to sell, trade and store crack cocaine. In addition to making drug deliveries from Philadelphia to Williamsport, Brooks also distributed those drugs throughout Williamsport while carrying a firearm. After making several controlled buys, police executed a search warrant at the Hepburn Street address and found Brooks, Robinson, a cache of drugs, more than $2,000 in drug proceeds, scales, drug paraphernalia, and two firearms. Darien Robinson has also been charged with distribution of cocaine base and is awaiting sentencing. This case was investigated by the Williamsport Police Department and the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration and prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Martin Carlson. U.S. Attorney Marino thanked the individuals and agencies for their dedication to the war on drugs. Mr. Marino went on to remind gun-toting drug dealers that law enforcement is serious about indicting and prosecuting criminals who threaten our communities. **** |
