MONROE COUNTY MAN SENTENCED TO 90 MONTHS FOR DRUG TRAFFICKING

Martin C. Carlson, Acting United States Attorney for the Middle District of Pennsylvania, announced that a Tobyhanna man was sentenced by U.S. District Court Judge Edwin M. Kosik to serve 90 months in federal prison for participating in a cocaine, heroin, marijuana, and crack cocaine conspiracy in Monroe County during 2005-2006.

Carlson stated that Hector Diaz, age 31, previously pleaded guilty to conspiracy to distribute and possess with intent to distribute more than five grams of crack cocaine, more than 500 grams of cocaine, more than 100 grams of heroin, and marijuana.

Diaz was indicted by a federal grand jury on March 28, 2006, as a result of an investigation by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), the Pennsylvania State Police, and local police in Monroe County.

Judge Kosik also ordered Diaz to be placed on four years of supervised release after serving his prison sentence. Diaz must also pay a $100 special assessment.

Diaz was also ordered to forfeit to the government two guns, ammunition, and $9,303 seized during the investigation.

Carlson noted that the case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Francis P. Sempa.
