RUSSIAN NATIONAL AND PENNSYLVANIA MAN ARRESTED FOR ALLEGED EXPORT SMUGGLING OPERATION

Martin C. Carlson, Acting United States Attorney for the Middle District of Pennsylvania announced today that a Russian national and a Pennsylvania man have been arrested for conspiring to send and export military equipment.

According to Acting U.S. Attorney Carlson, Sergey Korznikov, age unknown, of Moscow, Russia, and Mark Komoroski, age 45, Nanticoke, Pennsylvania, were charged in a criminal complaint. It is alleged that Korznikov and Komoroski conspired to smuggle military equipment including rifle scopes, magazines for firearms, face shields and other military equipment out of the United States and to Russia to be resold to unknown persons.

Both Korznikov and Komoroski were arrested on January 7, 2008.

If convicted, both Korznikov and Komoroski could be imprisoned for five years.

This case is being investigated by the U.S. Department of Immigration and Customs Enforcement; Internal Revenue Service Criminal Investigations Unit; Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives; U.S. Postal Inspection Service; the Department of Commerce; the Defense Criminal Investigative Service and the Pennsylvania State Police.

Prosecution is assigned to Assistant United States Attorney Christy H. Fawcett.

A charged Defendant is presumed innocent until a jury returns a unanimous finding that the United States has proven the defendant’s guilt beyond a reasonable doubt or until the defendant has pled guilty to the charges.
