MAN SENTENCED TO 157 MONTHS FOR ROBBING VIDEO STORE Martin C. Carlson, Acting United States Attorney for the Middle District of Pennsylvania, announced that Jabari Penn, age 29, of Baltimore, Maryland, was sentenced today by United States District Judge William W. Caldwell to a term of imprisonment for the armed robbery of the Hollywood Video store in Waynesboro, Pennsylvania. Judge Caldwell sentenced Penn to a 157-month term of imprisonment and further ordered that Penn pay $884 in restitution and serve a five-year term of supervision once released from prison. According to Acting U.S. Attorney Carlson, on January 23, 2007, a male entered the Hollywood Video store in Waynesboro, Franklin County, Pennsylvania, with a sawed-off shotgun and demanded money from the video store employee. The investigation led to Penn who knew someone who at one time worked at the Hollywood Video store. Penn was interviewed by investigators and admitted to using a sawed-off shotgun to rob the Hollywood Video store. After obtaining a search warrant, investigators located a Remington 12-gauge shotgun in a duffel bag in the trunk of Penn’s car. The barrel had been shortened and the stock had been cut into a pistol grip. Articles of clothing used during the robbery were also recovered. In November 2007, Penn pleaded guilty to a felony information charging him with a Hobbs Act robbery and the use of a sawed-off shotgun during a crime of violence. This case was investigated by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives; the Pennsylvania State Police and the Washington Township Police Department and prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Daryl F. Bloom. **** |
