MONROE COUNTY DRUG DEALER SENTENCED TO 130 MONTHS

Martin C. Carlson, Acting United States Attorney for the Middle District of Pennsylvania, announced that a 32-year old man who admitted to participating in a drug conspiracy that distributed cocaine and crack cocaine in Monroe County in 2004 was sentenced today to serve 130 months in prison by U.S. District Court Senior Judge Edwin M. Kosik.

Carlson stated that James Sykes, who used the street name “Bigs,” previously pleaded guilty to conspiracy to distribute cocaine and crack.

Sykes was indicted by a federal grand jury on April 26, 2005, as a result of an investigation by the Federal Bureau of Investigation(FBI) the Pennsylvania Attorney General’s Office, and local police in Monroe County. Sykes was one of four people charged in the indictment. All the defendants subsequently entered guilty pleas and were sentenced to federal prison terms.

Judge Kosik also ordered Sykes to pay a $100 special assessment. Sykes must also serve three years of supervised release after being released from prison.

Carlson noted that the case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Francis P. Sempa.
