FEDERAL STUDENT INTERN LITIGATION PROGRAM

The Office of the United States Attorney, Eastern District of Tennessee, sponsors a Federal Student Intern Litigation Program for all qualified students enrolled in accredited law schools.  The Intern Litigation Program is designed to involve the student in every phase of the federal litigation experience in both civil and criminal cases.  Students may participate on a part-time or full-time basis during the summer.  Students at the University of Tennessee may participate during the school year for eight to fifteen hours a week.

The Intern Litigation Program attempts to provide the student with an opportunity to:

Third-year or rising third-year students may be certified by the Tennessee Supreme Court under its student practice rule and authorized to represent the United States in district court or before a United States magistrate in various proceedings under the supervision of the responsible Assistant U.S. Attorney.

The Intern Litigation Program generally operates on a pro bono basis.  However, since the U.S. Attorney's Office is a public interest organization, student participants have qualified for public interest grants and academic or extracurricular law school credit where available.

Finally, all aspects of the Student Intern Litigation Program are directed by the coordinating Assistant U.S. Attorney Trey Hamilton and Paralegal Barbara Brukiewa.

Inquiries and resumes should be submitted to:
