The United States Attorney's Office represents the federal government in legal matters which the United States is a party. The United States Attorneys have three statutory responsibilities under Title 28, Section 507 of the United States Code:

the prosecution of criminal cases brought by the Federal government;
the prosecution and defense of civil cases in which the United States
is a party; and
the collection of debts owed the Federal government which are
administratively uncollectible.

Functionally, the United States Attorney's Office for the Western District of Tennessee is divided into three divisions and a branch office, and two support programs including:

8/22/2008 - EDGAR ANTONIO GARCIA SANCHEZ, 20, of Shelby County was sentenced in the United States District Court to a total of 235 months in prison. SANCHEZ was sentenced to 19 ½ years for conspiracy to distribute over one kilogram of heroin and the unlawful employment or use of a person under 18 years of age in a drug operation. ........ more
