R. Andrew Bassford
Assistant United States Attorney
Mr. Bassford graduated from Georgetown University in 1986, receiving a Bachelor of Science degree in Foreign Service. He graduated from the University of Virginia School of Law in 1998.
From 1986 through 1995, Mr. Bassford served on active duty in the United States Army as an infantry officer. He was stationed at various locations in Europe and throughout the United States. He is a graduate of the Army's Ranger, Airborne, and Jumpmaster schools, and is currently a member of the Army Reserve.
After graduating from law school, Mr. Bassford was employed in the private practice of law, focusing on criminal defense and civil litigation. Subsequently, he served as an Assistant Commonwealth's Attorney in the City of Martinsville, Virginia where he prosecuted a wide variety of state criminal offenses, including capital murder.
Mr. Bassford's primary responsibility as an Assistant United States Attorney is the prosecution of Federal firearms and drug crimes.
