Joseph W. H. Mott
Assistant United States Attorney

Mr. Mott received a B.S. in Business Administration with a major in accounting from George Mason University in 1974. He worked for a C.P.A. firm in Fairfax, and owned and operated an auto repair business in Northern Virginia and Maryland. Joe is an ASE-certified General Automobile Mechanic.
He received his J.D. from the T. C. Williams School of Law at the University of Richmond in 1982. He is licensed in Virginia and the District of Columbia, and has been admitted to practice in all federal courts in Virginia and the United States Supreme Court. Mr. Mott worked for the Wooten and Hart law firm in Roanoke from 1983-1984, where he did insurance defense and business litigation, and from 1984 to 1989 was the Assistant Commonwealth's Attorney in Franklin County, Virginia.
Joe joined the U. S. Attorney's Office in April 1989. He has served as the head of the office's Financial Litigation Unit, and was the Lead OCDETF (Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Force) Attorney from 1991 to 2001. His current caseload is primarily fraud and economic crime.
