FORMER CHARLOTTESVILLE MAIL CARRIER SENTENCED FOR STEALING MAIL
Acting United States Attorney Julia C. Dudley announced today that Kim Colleen Malone, age 41, of Charlottesville, Virginia, was sentenced in United States District Court for the Western District of Virginia in Charlottesville for stealing mail while being an employee of the United States Postal Service.
“Employees of the Federal Government have an obligation to protect the trust put in them by the citizens of our Country,” Acting United States Attorney Julia C. Dudley said today. “This case proves that when those employees abuse that trust, they will not be given special treatment.”
Malone was sentenced today to serve two years of probation. In April, Malone waived prosecution by indictment and pled guilty to a one count information charging her with stealing mail.
The charges leveled against Malone began when residents on her mail route complained to post office officials that some mail was not being delivered to their homes. An investigation by the United States Postal Service, Office of the Inspector General revealed that on numerous occasions, Malone stole mail that was intended to be delivered to people on her mail route.
The investigation of the case was conducted by the United States Postal Service, Office of the Inspector General. Assistant United States Attorney Nancy Healey prosecuted the case.
