NORTH CAROLINA MAN INDICTED ON VA DISABILITY AND MILITARYPENSION FRAUD AND FALSE CLAIMS OF MILITARY AWARDS AND DECORATIONS

United States Attorney John L. Brownlee announced today that RANDALL A. MONEYMAKER , age 43, of Clayton, North Carolina, was indicted by a federal Grand Jury sitting in Roanoke, Virginia.

MONEYMAKER was charged in a seven count superseding indictment with making false statements and submitting false documents in support of claims for military retirement and service connected disabilities and theft of government funds in relation to fraudulent disability claims. MONEYMAKER was also charged with falsely representing that he had received various awards and decorations or medal authorized by Congress for the armed Forces of the United States.

If convicted on all counts, the maximum penalty faced by RANDALL A. MONEYMAKER is thirty five years and six months and a fine of $1,505,00.00.

The investigation of the case was conducted by the U.S. Department of Defense and Department of Veterans Affairs. Assistant United States Attorney Craig Jacobsen will prosecute the case. For further information, please contact AUSA Jacobsen, at (540) 857-2250.

A Grand Jury indictment is only a charge and not evidence of guilt. The defendant is entitled to a fair trial with the burden on the government to prove guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.
