Tom Anderson US Atty
Thomas D. Anderson was sworn in as Vermont’s 35th United States Attorney on June 24, 2006, having been appointed by President Bush and unanimously confirmed by the United States Senate.  As United States Attorney, Tom serves as the District of Vermont’s chief federal law enforcement official.  Among his duties, Tom manages offices in Burlington and Rutland with a total of 19 attorneys that represent the United States in criminal and civil litigation in the district.  Tom also serves on several subcommittees of the Attorney General’s Advisory Committee, including Terrorism and National Security, Border and Immigration, Information Sharing and Sentencing. 

Prior to becoming United States Attorney, Tom was an Assistant U.S. Attorney in the District of Vermont and is beginning his 17th year with the Department of Justice. He has also served as a Deputy State’s Attorney in Newport, Vermont, a Special Assistant Attorney General for the State of Vermont, and he spent five years in private practice with the Burlington firm of Sheehey Furlong and Behm, where he was a partner and managing partner.   

As an Assistant U.S. Attorney and Deputy State’s Attorney, Tom has handled a variety of criminal prosecutions ranging from drug trafficking and firearms to police misconduct and homicide. He has tried dozens of cases to a jury.  Throughout his career, Tom has developed, fostered and maintained a cooperative working relationship with federal, state and local law enforcement in Vermont.   As United States Attorney, cooperation among law enforcement in Vermont remains one of Tom’s top priorities.  Tom is currently a member of the Governor’s Homeland Security Advisory Council.

Tom has also been active in his community.  He has served as a member of the South Burlington and Milton Planning Commissions, was chair of the Mater Christi School Board, and has coached youth soccer, skiing and baseball. 

Tom and his wife Wendy Peppe-Anderson have been married for 26 years.  Wendy is an educator at Richmond Elementary School and Peer Review Consultant for the Vermont Department of Education.  They have three children.
