OPDAT-Created Courtroom Security Manual Presented in Malaysia

On March 4, in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, the country’s first Manual on Courtroom Security in Terrorism Cases was presented to the Chair of Malaysia’s National Judicial Security Committee (NJSC) for consideration and adoption. The Manual is the result of a two-year initiative, which was led by OPDAT and its Malaysian partners, to address gaps in courthouse security during terrorism trials. The NJSC is chaired by an alumnus of an OPDAT-sponsored visit to the U.S. federal court in the Central District of California, which focused on best practices in terrorism trials and served as the nucleus of many of the ideas now being implemented in Malaysia. The Manual is due to be publicly launched by the Chief Justice of Malaysia in June 2020 and subsequently implemented throughout Malaysia.
