OPDAT Strengthens Central American Coordination against MS-13 and 18th Street Gangs

On February 27, in Antigua, Guatemala, OPDAT hosted an Operation Regional Shield meeting with prosecutors, investigators, and analysts from Honduras, El Salvador, Guatemala, and Mexico.  Discussions covered achievements, challenges, and lessons learned from the fight against MS-13, 18th Street, and other transnational violent gangs since the last meeting in November 2019.  U.S. representatives included OPDAT El Salvador Resident Legal Advisors (RLAs) Sean Torriente and Walter Perkel, Mexico RLA Rene Valle, Guatemala RLA Ilyanis Rivera Miranda, Honduras RLA Elba Gorbea, and Assistant U.S. Attorney Kevin Rosenberg of the District of Columbia.  Guatemala Secretary of Criminal Policy Maria Teresa Centeno attended as well.  Secretary Centeno accepted an award on behalf of Guatemala Attorney General Maria Consuelo Porras Argueta for her support of Operation Regional Shield.
