ICITAP’s Engaging Multinational Police Women on Equality and Rights Program Joins U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Counterterrorism to Release Podcast Episodes in Celebration of International Women’s Day and Women’s History Month

On March 8, in honor of International Women’s Day, the ICITAP Engaging Multinational Police Women on Equality and Rights (EMPoWER) team joined counterparts from the U.S. Department of State Bureau of Counterterrorism to release a three-part podcast episode, which highlights both Departments’ joint work in advancing the Women, Peace, and Security Agenda. Led by an EMPoWER Law Enforcement Advisor, who hosts the podcast series, the interagency team walks listeners through the workings of the EMPoWER program. Seeking to broadcast the relevance of gendered perspectives in the counterterrorism field, each of the three sessions highlights how the EMPoWER program works with foreign partners to strengthen their capacity to detect, disrupt, and deter terrorist activity. Throughout the episodes, EMPoWER team members share the journeys leading them to work on the terrorism and gender nexus, coupled with details on initiatives the program has carried forward around the world. The sessions highlight specific examples of EMPoWER’s work in Jordan, Kenya, and the Western Balkans, while offering lessons learned and highlighting successes across the world. The full episode will be released in three parts, with release dates of March 8, 2024; March 13, 2024; and March 21, 2024. Listeners can access the first of three episodes here or tune in to the podcast here. For more information about ICITAP’s Women in Police expertise, click here.
