Report a Suspected Violation
Pollution
- If you suspect a violation involving pollution, including pollution implicating air quality, climate change, health, water, or chemicals and toxins (including lead paint), contact the Environmental Protection Agency.
- If you suspect that a violation of a pollution-control law is occurring and presents an emergency situation, you may contact the Environmental Enforcement Section (one of the sections within ENRD). You may also wish to contact your local fire or health department.
- If the violation concerns an oil or chemical spill, contact the National Response Center at 1-800-424-8802.
Wildlife or Marine Environment
- If the violation concerns a marine environment, contact the Coast Guard. You may also contact the National Marine Fisheries Service office for your region.
- If the violation concerns a violation of wildlife law, including pesticides harming wildlife, you should contact the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service at (734) 995-0387, or 1-800-344-9453. You may also contact the Fish and Wildlife Service office for your region.
Wetlands
- If you suspect that a wetlands violation has occurred, you should contact the United States Army Corps of Engineers at 1-800-832-7828, and the Environmental Protection Agency office for your region.
Animal Welfare
- To report animal fighting or other animal welfare crimes, contact your local law enforcement or the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Office of Inspector General’s Hotline or 1-800-424-9121.
Workplace Conditions
- If the violation concerns workplace conditions, such as exposure to chemicals or noxious fumes, contact the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) at 1-800-321-6742.
Pipelines and Transportation of Hazardous Materials
- If the violation concerns transportation of hazardous materials or a pipeline, contact the Department of Transportation — Office of Inspector General (DOT-OIG) at 1-800-424-9071.
Discriminatory Environmental and Health Impacts
- If the violation concerns discriminatory environmental and health impacts caused by recipients of federal funds, you should contact your local United States Attorney’s Office, DOJ Office of Environmental Justice, or DOJ Civil Rights at 1-888-TITLE-06 (1-888-848-5306).
Public Corruption
- If the violation involves public corruption, contact the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
Criminal Violations
- If you have direct evidence of criminal activity, you should contact your local United States Attorneys Office, or the Environmental Crimes Section of ENRD.
State Law Violation
- If the violation involves a matter of State law, you may wish to contact your State Attorney General's office.
