ATF Special Agent Martin E. Marciniak – Special Agent Marciniak had a distinguished career as an ATF Special Agent before dying far too young, at age 46, in 1997 after a short illness.

Special Agent Marciniak was born in Schenectady.   He graduated from Mont Pleasant High School and earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice in 1972.   After serving as a Schenectady police officer for a brief period, Special Agent Marciniak joined ATF and was assigned to the Albany office in 1976.  In 1980, he transferred to the Secret Service where he served until 1983.  During his Secret Service assignment, Special Agent Marciniak received citations from Presidents Reagan and Bush.

In 1983, he returned to ATF and in the following years distinguished himself by participating in the investigation of several high profile arson and explosives incidents both locally and throughout the United States including the World Trade Center Bombing, the Atlanta Centennial Park Bombing, where he was involved in supervising agents, and the TWA Flight 800 explosion.

At the time of his death, Special Agent Marciniak was in charge of ATF’s Northeast Response Team.  He also was responsible for designing and purchasing the large trucks assigned to the ATF Response Teams around the country.

Special Agent Marciniak exemplified dedication to duty, work ethic, professional competence, and cooperative spirit.  Since 1998, the U.S. Attorney’s Office has presented the Marty Marciniak Award to honor law enforcement officers who have made extraordinary contributions to cases prosecuted by the Albany office.
