Problem Solving for Public Safety Partners Training Series
From January to June 2022, the USAO-MDFL Law Enforcement Coordinating Committee (LECC) Program, in partnership with the USDOJ Office of Community Oriented Policing Services (COPS), and the Center for Public Safety Innovation (CPSI) at St. Petersburg College facilitated and delivered a two-day course in all five (5) divisions of the Middle District of Florida. Each session was hosted by a local MDFL law enforcement agency. This comprehensive curriculum focused on the essential steps and partnerships required to properly identify, analyze, and prioritize issues and problems affecting public safety and evidence-based practices that reduce crime and improve the quality of life. Discussions included a historical overview of policing in America, the evolution of modern policing, trauma-informed communities, community policing strategies, problem-solving models, and measuring outcomes. Throughout, attendees engaged in highly interactive exercises and scenarios to create action plans for their local communities. Participating teams included law enforcement, government agencies and officials, NGOs, civic organizations, and citizens. Participants were introduced to shared resources and regional networks instrumental in building trust and mutual aid, improving accountability, and enhancing their problem-solving skills. In total, 113 participants representing 53 various agencies and organizations were served.
