Corey Amundson

Corey Amundson serves as Chief of the Public Integrity Section, a nonpartisan career position within the Senior Executive Service.  He is a longtime federal corruption prosecutor and senior Department of Justice executive who also led the United States Attorney’s Office for the Middle District of Louisiana, the Office of Professional Responsibility (OPR), and the National Center for Disaster Fraud.   

Mr. Amundson served for more than 16 years as an Assistant United States Attorney, including as Acting United States Attorney, First Assistant United States Attorney, Criminal Chief, Senior Deputy Criminal Chief, and Deputy Criminal Chief.  He handled hundreds of public corruption matters involving officials at all levels of government, prosecuted more than 200 federal criminal cases at the district and appellate levels, and successfully navigated numerous complex, high-profile corruption trials, resulting in awards and commendations from the Attorney General, Director of the Executive Office for United States Attorneys, FBI Director, and various Inspectors General.  

Mr. Amundson also advised senior Department leadership during multiple administrations as part of the Attorney General Advisory Committee’s Criminal Chiefs Working Group, served as Senior Counsel to the Deputy Attorney General, and assisted the Department with various sensitive matters and crisis, including representing the Department in national media appearances.  He frequently lectures at the National Advocacy Center and served as an adjunct law school professor. 

Prior to the joining the Department, Mr. Amundson practiced in the Special Matters and Government Investigations Group at the international law firm of King & Spalding LLP in Washington, D.C.  He also served as a law clerk to then-Chief U.S. District Judge Sarah Evans Barker in Indianapolis.  He received his J.D. from Emory University and his B.A. in political science and criminal justice from Indiana University.
