The District of Connecticut’s Anti-Human Trafficking Efforts

Human trafficking is one of the Department of Justice’s top priorities.  The U.S. Attorney’s Office is committed to preventing, investigating, and prosecuting individuals who engage in sex trafficking and labor trafficking.  In 2015, Homeland Security Investigations provided funding to launch the Connecticut Human Trafficking Task Force, which brings together representatives of Homeland Security Investigations, the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the United States Department of Labor, the Connecticut State Police, officers from sixteen local police departments, and representatives of the Connecticut State’s Attorney’s Offices throughout the state to combat human trafficking.  

The Office’s priority has been the sex trafficking of minors because of the vulnerability of the children who are exploited in this manner.  The Office also investigates allegations of sex trafficking of adults by force, fraud, or coercion, and labor trafficking. 

Members of the U.S. Attorney’s Office often participate in events to raise awareness about human trafficking and are available to conduct trainings for school groups, medical professionals, law enforcement, and community members regarding human trafficking laws and “red flags.”  We also work closely with Connecticut’s Department of Children and Families to coordinate responses to reports of youth being trafficked.
