Assistant U.S. Attorneys (AUSA)have the responsibility and ability to effect positive change in Massachusetts and across the United States, whether through the prosecution of a drug dealer who terrorizes a local community, a civil suit against a company for failing to comply with the laws protecting disabled Americans, or the prosecution of a major pharmaceutical company for cheating in the sale of drugs and devices. Many lawyers look back on their days as an AUSA as among the most satisfying of their professional career.

With more than 100 AUSAs, the U.S. Attorney's Office - District of Massachusetts is one of the largest in the country. The District's primary office is in Boston, but there are branches in Springfield and Worcester as well.

The hiring process is very competitive: hundreds of applications apply each year for a handful of openings. Applicants are required to have at least three years of exceptional experience as an attorney and superior academic credentials. AUSAs are recruited from large law firms as well as from the public sector.
