Human Trafficking Task Force

The Southern District of Georgia’s Human Trafficking Task Force (GAS Task Force) consists of federal, state, and local agencies, including community organizations, for community outreach on human trafficking issues and to investigate and prosecute cases of human trafficking.

Human trafficking, also known as trafficking in persons or modern-day slavery, is a crime that involves compelling or coercing a person to provide labor or services, or to engage in commercial sex acts. The coercion can be subtle or overt, physical or psychological. Exploitation of a minor for commercial sex is human trafficking, regardless of whether any form of force, fraud or coercion is used.

The goal of the GAS Task Force is to work with law enforcement and private agencies to discover and rescue victims of human trafficking while identifying and prosecuting offenders. The GAS Task Force achieves its goals through heightened law enforcement and victim service presence in the community; operations to identify victims and traffickers; training for law enforcement; and outreach awareness campaigns in the community.
