Meet the U.S. Attorney

Zachary A. Myers has served as the U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of Indiana since November 15, 2021. Myers was nominated by President Joseph R. Biden and was unanimously confirmed by the Senate.

As the U.S. Attorney, Myers leads an office of approximately over 100 Assistant United States Attorneys and support professionals who litigate matters involving federal criminal offenses, civil litigation and the promotion of public safety and civil rights throughout the district. The Southern District of Indiana is comprised of the southern sixty counties in the state. The U.S. Attorney’s Office is based in Indianapolis, with a staffed office in Evansville, and unstaffed satellite offices in Terre Haute and New Albany.

U.S. Attorney Myers crafted the Office’s Strategic Plan, focusing the office’s resources on addressing gun violence, trafficking of fentanyl and other deadly drugs, protecting and promoting civil rights, as well as complex crimes including human trafficking, cybercrime, child exploitation, economic crimes, and public corruption. Myers has worked to significantly expand the office’s resources to ensure that it can best serve the needs of the district and its residents.

Myers serves in several roles in support of the Department of Justice as a whole, including as chair of the Attorney General Advisory Committee’s Cyber and Intellectual Property Subcommittee. He also serves on the subcommittees for While Collar Crime and Office Management & Budget, and on the Department of Justice’s Juvenile Violence Working Group. Myers regularly speaks to community groups, students, and law enforcement officers about issues including public service, increasing public safety, and promoting civil rights.

Before assuming office as U.S. Attorney, Myers spent more than a decade as a career federal prosecutor as an AUSA in the Southern District of Indiana from 2011 to 2014, and the District of Maryland from 2014 until assuming office as U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of Indiana. As an AUSA, Myers led investigations, prosecutions and appeals of a wide range of federal offenses with a focus on cyber and technology-facilitated crimes.

Myers earned his bachelor’s degree from Stanford University. He earned his master’s degree from George Washington University, while serving on the staff of the late Indiana Congresswoman Julia M. Carson. He earned his J.D. from the Georgetown University Law Center. Myers grew up in Indianapolis and is the first Black person to serve as the district’s chief federal law enforcement officer.
