Asset Recovery Division

The Asset Recovery Division (ARD) recovers assets and property from defendants through forfeiture and restitution statutes to restore crime victim losses and disincentivize criminal activity.  Cases involve a wide range of offenses including fraud, drug trafficking, money laundering, child exploitation, human trafficking, bank robbery, and other violent crimes.  The ARD is responsible for civil forfeitures and collection of debts owed by defendants through restitution orders, fines, and assessments as well as state tax foreclosures under 28 U.S.C. § 2410 and handles appeals within this specialized subject area. The ARD recovers millions of dollars in property and assets annually, the majority of which is returned to victims.
