Sexual Harassment in Housing Initiative - About Us

In October 2017, the Department of Justice's Civil Rights Division announced the Sexual Harassment in Housing Initiative. The Initiative is coordinated by the Housing & Civil Enforcement Section.  The Section enforces the Fair Housing Act and the Equal Credit Opportunity Act. Sexual harassment in housing is prohibited by these laws. United States Attorney's Offices across the country work with the Civil Rights Division to investigate and bring lawsuits under these civil rights laws.

We are working to increase awareness about sexual harassment in housing and that it is against the law. We also want to increase awareness that DOJ investigates and files lawsuits about sexual harassment in housing. DOJ works with other parts of the government, such as the United States Department of Housing and Urban Development, to help victims of sexual harassment. DOJ also works with state and local governments, law enforcement, and a wide variety of organizations across the country.
