Qualifications: All full-time second or third-year law students. Students should have excellent academic credentials, good writing skills and basic knowledge of federal Indian law.
Dates Available: Fall (August - December); Spring (January - April); Summer (May - August)
Overview: The internship is designed to give students the opportunity to gain firsthand experience in working on challenging projects and cases principally involving issues of federal Indian law. Interns work closely with attorneys in the Office of Tribal Justice on a variety of diverse projects. Work may include legal research, drafting legal memoranda, public policy development, citizen correspondence and briefs on a wide range of federal Indian law issues. Also, interns may have the opportunity to attend Congressional committee hearings, oral arguments before the Supreme Court, and high-level meetings with OTJ attorneys.
Salary: Volunteer (no compensation) or academic credit (to be decided by each school) only.
