Carolyn Pokorny

Carolyn Pokorny is the First Assistant U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of New York.  She returned to the Office to assume that role in January 2022. 

Carolyn previously served as an Assistant United States Attorney in the Office for over fourteen years, from 1999 to 2014, serving in the Criminal Division and the Front Office.  During her prior tenure in the Office, she held many supervisory roles, including Chief of the International Narcotics Strike Force, Senior Litigation Counsel in the Public Integrity Section, Chief of the General Crimes Section and Deputy Chief of the Criminal Division.  She received several awards while in the Office, including the Attorney General’s Award for Distinguished Service and the Eastern District of New York Association’s Charles E. Rose Award.  After leaving the Office, Carolyn was a partner at a boutique litigation firm.  In 2015, Carolyn was tapped by then Attorney General Loretta E. Lynch to serve as her Deputy Chief of Staff and Counselor.  From 2017 to 2021, Carolyn held leadership roles in New York State government, most recently serving as the Inspector General for the Metropolitan Transportation Authority, the largest transportation system in North America.

Carolyn is a graduate of Brooklyn Law School where she served as the Associate Managing Editor of the Brooklyn Law Review.  Before joining the Office, she served as an Assistant District Attorney in the Appeals Bureau of the Bronx District Attorney’s Office, as a law clerk to the late Honorable Arthur D. Spatt of the United States District Court for the Eastern District of New York.
