Environmental Justice

The Department of Justice has announced a Comprehensive Environmental Justice Enforcement Strategy. Environmental Justice (EJ) is the fair treatment and meaningful involvement of all people regardless of race, color, national origin, or income with respect to the development, implementation, and enforcement of environmental laws, regulations, and policies.

The Environmental Justice Coordinator for the United States Attorney’s Office for the Western District of Kentucky will:

  • Lead the effort to implement the Strategy in this district through enforcement of both criminal and civil environmental laws, including the Clean Air Act, Clean Water Act, and hazardous waste laws;
  • Litigate environmental cases in federal courtrooms throughout the district;
  • Attend community meetings where environmental issues are discussed and coordinate trainings for prosecutors and investigators;
  • And meaningfully engage with impacted communities regarding environmental justice issues, efforts, and results.

Members of the public are encouraged to report suspected environmental violations within the district. Reports may be submitted to the Environmental Protection Agency, on their website, to the Kentucky Department for Environmental Protection by phone at (502) 582-5911, or to the United States Attorney’s Office, by mail, phone, or email:
