Student Volunteer (Intern) (Las Vegas)

The Student Volunteer program for the U.S. Attorney's Office, District of Nevada allows students to explore Federal career options as well as develop personal and professional skills. Students will be exposed to the Federal work environment and will learn about the missions and responsibilities of various Federal agencies and departments.

Students must be enrolled, at least half-time, in an accredited high school, college, trade school, or other qualifying educational institution. Students may or may not be assigned duties which directly relate to their course of study and are not considered Federal employees. However, time spend as a Student Volunteer is documented and can be used for school credit at the discretion of their educational institution. Student Volunteers perform service without compensation.

Normal business hours are 8:00am - 5:00pm, Monday through Friday. Closed on weekends and all federal holidays. Students are expected to be able to work a part-time schedule in between our normal business hours in-office. Telework/remote work is not eligible. Nights and/or weekend hours are not available.

Volunteers will be assigned to one or more of the divisions (Criminal Division, Civil Division, Administrative Division, or Executive Division). Applicants should state their preference of division in their cover letter or resume. However, it is not guaranteed that the candidate(s) will be assigned to their preferred division.

Student volunteers are not considered to be federal employees for any purpose other than for purposes of section 7905 (relating to commuting by means other than single-occupancy motor vehicles), chapter 81 (relating to compensation for injury) and sections 2671 through 2680 of title 28 (relating to tort claims). As such, they are not eligible for any other employee benefit (e.g., leave, overtime, health benefits, life insurance, retirement, thrift savings plan). This internship is NOT telework eligible and volunteers will be expected to report in person for duty.
